A Hundred Thousand Times
A Hundred Thousand Times is an exhibition of film, sculpture and painting exploring the very human aspects of long distance lorry driving, with silent and not so silent technological influences.
Using film to explore the dash cam as a lazy director, we are drawn to descriptions out of frame and confronted with its limits. A central character, Syd, guides us in distraction and dissociation, entering memories and even the clouds, only to be occasionally pulled out of these moments by a worried navigator.
Sculptural works relate to the touches of personalisation we often use in our spaces, to make them feel more like home, even those that are constantly moving at the speed limit. Each of these markers, from air fresheners to soft toys on bumpers, have a life span, ageing and degrading over time, like the people that put them there.
There is something beautiful in the boring.
